Beckley Fire Department encourages fire safety

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – As temperatures have increased in the past few weeks, so has burning in local areas.

The Beckley Fire Department has safety at the front of its mind in reinforcing burning restrictions. With the current heat levels, it’s important to ensure that systems are being properly operated.

“This time of year, burning is restricted within the city limits of Beckley,” said Beckley Fire Department Lieutenant Chris Lanna. “A lot of folks still think that they can burn in the after 5:00 p.m. rule, and that’s not really the case right now. There should be a burn season back in the fall. Just do like I’m doing, collect that big pile in your backyard and just let it pile up for a while. We can take care of those in the fall.”

The fire department says that this is an education issue with a focus on raising awareness to the city rules more than anything else.
