Beckley City Council approves bid to sale old police station

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The Beckley city council approved a bid to sell the old police station building.

The old police station on Prince Street was placed up for sale and will now be sold for $152,500. Some residents fear the new owners will leave the building unattended until it falls down like the Walton and Roche Lab buildings.

“When you look around at our downtown with the buildings that the city already owns, with the buildings that are falling down, with the buildings the city is purchasing and tearing down. It’s time for the city to invest in our downtown,” said Community Advocate Danielle Stewart. “I’m really concerned that they are going to sell it to somebody who has no plans for this building and then we are going to be stuck with another building in our downtown just waiting to fall down when something happens.”

The vote of approval was small with only four council members voting to approve the bid.
