BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – A potential pay raise for city council members died in last night’s council meeting.
A pay raise was on the agenda on Tuesday night’s council meeting but later died without an introduction. Beckley Ward 4 candidate Kelly Elkins says she believes council members getting a raise during the pandemic is absurd.
“We are in a global pandemic, we have people are not collecting unemployment at this time. We have essential employees on the first line who are working with a skeleton crew and that’s right here in our city,” said Elkins.
A pay raise is added to the agenda at the end of each term.
