Beavers, Renegades Advance to State Tournament

WOAY – Bluefield and Westside will represent Region 3 at next week’s Class AA state boys basketball tournament after regional wins against Oak Hill and Shady Spring, respectively.

The Beavers gained momentum early in their 48-38 win against the Red Devils. Mookie Collier led Bluefield with 19 points, while Braden Crews added 10. Andrew Work led Oak Hill with 10 points. Bluefield will be the #5 seed at the state tournament, playing Philip Barbour at 9:00 PM on Wednesday. It’s their seventh straight trip to Charleston.

Westside used a second-quarter rally to win 63-48 against Shady Spring, and clinch their first state tournament berth since 2015. Shane Jenkins led the Renegades with 20 points, while Corey Hatfield (14) and Jacob Ellis (13) also reached double figures. Westside, as the #3 seed, will face Winfield at 9:30 AM Wednesday morning.
