Bat tests positive for rabies in Tazewell County

Tazewell County, VA (WOAY) – The Tazewell County Health Department has reported that a bat has tested positive for rabies in the Bishop area.

One person was exposed and is undergoing preventative treatment.

The Health Department is warning residents of the importance of reporting exposure to bats or other potentially rabid animals. The Health Department is also urging people to avoid wild animals, to feed pets indoors, and keep them up to date on vaccinations.

This is the first exposure in Tazewell County of the year.
