Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key bridge collapses following crash

Baltimore, MD (ABC)—Breaking news from Baltimore where police reported a partial bridge collapsed after being hit by a container ship.

A video shared online overnight shows the massive steel structure and multiple vehicles falling into the Patapsco River.

Fire officials say one vehicle is as big as a tractor-trailer.

Authorities report that an estimated seven people fell into the water following the collapse. ABC has been told overnight work was being done on the bridge.

Maryland authorities confirm all lanes of traffic are closed in both directions.
Local, state, and federal emergency crews are canvassing the river, looking for anyone in the water.

The bridge opened in 1977 and carries Interstate 695 over the river in a busy shipping area.

We will provide further details as they are made available.
