Authorities investigating after pedestrian was fatally struck early this morning on West Virginia Turnpike

Charleston, WV (WOAY) West Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash along Interstate 77 that happened early this morning. 

Troopers with the Turnpike Detachment responded just before 6:50 a.m. to the southbound lanes near the 95-mile marker after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. 

When troopers arrived on scene, they determined the female pedestrian, identified as 54-year-old Denise West of Charleston, had died as a result of the crash.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was 24-year-old Noah Hamrick, also from Charleston.

Authorities stated no criminal charges are expected at this time, but the incident remains under investigation.
