Athens Volunteer Fire Department assists in church fire

PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – The New Beginnings Praise and Worship Center in Princeton was set on fire two separate times in June.

The church, at 5250 Cheesy Creek Road, has been closed off to the public. The Athens Volunteer Fire Department assisted on the scene.

“When we got the call and everything, I was actually responding from work,” said Athens Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Everett Mitchem. “After I got off work, got on scene, I was fully involved. The real fire had already collapsed in from what I can remember and we just pretty much put water on it to put the fire out.”

If anyone has information about the fires, they can call the West Virginia State Fire Marshal Hotline at 1-800-233-3473.
