Athens town park is getting an upgrade

ATHENS, WV (WOAY) – The Athens Town Council was updated on the progress of the upgrade to the town’s park.

The city received a grant from the Department of Highways, which will be used to replace the old walking trail through the park. The old trail has been around for over two decades years and needs replacement, according to the mayor.

“They are going to put a walking trail around the park,” said Athens Mayor Tim Pike. “It currently has an asphalt trail that has been there for twenty-five years, and it’s deteriorated. We actually got a grant, I believe, is around $50,000, and they are working on that.”

The construction is expected to begin in the spring.
