Around 2,800 students sign up for 100% virtual learning in Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Around 2,800 students have opted to sign up for the 100% virtual option in Mercer County.

The Mercer County Board of Education had been expecting around 25% of enrolled students to select this option. The number of students in the 100% virtual program could fluctuate as the school year gets underway in September.

“We know that a lot of parents are apprehensive about sending their kids back to school with the COVID-19 cases rising here in Mercer County,” said Data and Information Specialist Amy Harrison. “We had a deadline of Friday that they had to sign up. Over the weekend, there were several more who signed up, and we’re at around 2,800 right now.”

Mercer County is fully expecting to begin the 2020-2021 school year on September 8.
