BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- The month of February is heart month. In celebration of that, Beckley ARH is hosting a heart health fair this Friday.
It’ll happen from 8 am to 2 pm at the ARH Medical Mall on Eisenhower Dr. This is part of their ongoing effort to promote awareness and prevention of heart disease.
This event is free to the public and anyone of any age can participate. There will be a variety of screenings and information to improve and maintain their heart health.
“During the event, you’re going to have an EKG done, your lipo, lipid panels. We’re going to do your vitals and stroke assessment hands only CPR, and then we’re going to do a glucose check,” explained Kelly Elkins, Regional Community Development Manager for ARH. “So we’re inviting the community to come out for this event to find out, you know, how healthy is your heart.”
According to a cardiologist at ARH, the heart is the most important organ in your body. If you’re not taking good care of it it could lead to many issues, like stroke, disabilities, or even death. Having your heart screened is very important for a variety of reasons.
“To screen the heart, it’s very, very important because sometimes you might not feel anything. You might not have any symptoms, but we can pick up on a basic screening like a EKG or whatever form, check your cholesterol and things like that. Those are early signs of the heart attack or heart disease,” said Dr. Krittanawong, a cardiologist at ARH.
