OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a moist start to our Tuesday morning around southern West Virginia, with patchy fog in some areas and scattered showers making their way into the state from Virginia. Temperatures were mild this morning, generally in the mid-60s, and will stay close to or just above normal as the day goes on. Highs will wind up in the lower 80s, and with the humidity around, there will be a summerlike feel to the day.
As the day goes on, a few showers and storms will pop up, but like we saw this morning, these will again be scattered. So, while an umbrella will be handy, the number and intensity of the showers and storms will be less than it was the last couple of days.
Tonight will be similar to this morning, although with slightly drier air in place, the fog will be less widespread.
Tomorrow, a much better chance for rain will enter the forecast as an upper-level disturbance will push through the region and a southerly flow with high pressure east of the Outer Banks will pull a lot of moisture from the Atlantic and Gulf into our area.
Amounts of rain over the next few days will be high enough to raise flooding concerns for areas caught underneath the showers and storms, especially given how wet it’s been in some places recently. Despite the extra cloud cover, highs will still be around normal, generally in the lower 80s.
Temperature-wise, the trends that have been established over the next couple of days will continue throughout the rest of the seven-day forecast. Rain chances will also be high for several days running as the overall weather pattern remains the same throughout the rest of the week, leading to most areas seeing more than 1″ of rainfall over the next week.
This should end the drought throughout the area. As of last week, only a small portion of McDowell County was in any level of drought, but even that should be gone by the middle of the month if the totals in the graphic above in communities like Welch are realized.
