OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It has been another hot and humid afternoon around the region, and we turned the heat up slightly compared to yesterday, with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s.
When the humidity is factored in, it felt like it was in the lower to mid-90s in most areas. Tonight, we’ll keep the tropical feel in our weather, with lows only falling to around 70 degrees.
Although the nights are longer now than they were a few weeks ago, they’re still not long enough to allow for the kind of radiational cooling that would make the night feel a bit more comfortable.
Tomorrow will start similarly to today, with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s and plenty of sunshine. Add in the humidity, and the heat index values will once again be well into the 90s.
As the day goes on, however, showers and storms will begin to pop up. Some of these will be on the strong side, with damaging winds being the main threat. Of course, there will also be plenty of moisture for the storms to work with, so flooding is also a possibility. Any flooding will be localized and confined to areas underneath the storms that pop up.
Tomorrow’s rain will be driven by the heating of the day and should fade away after sunset. Lows tomorrow night will be warm again and will wind up in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees again.
The rain that we’re expecting is due to a front that will push through the area over the next couple of days. On Friday, we’ll definitely be under the influence of this front. More frequent and even more intense storms will roll through the region. The same threats that we saw with Thursday’s storms will be in play on Friday as well. With the chance for the storms to turn severe on Friday, the entire area is under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather.
Highs on Friday will drop off a shade with the extra cloud cover, but it will still be quite warm, generally in the upper 80s. Friday is, of course, the second week for the high school football schedule, and we’ll be tracking any storms that develop very closely.
The weekend will also feature a chance for showers and storms, but the number and intensity of the storms will be lower than what we’re expecting on Friday. There will still be a chance for severe storms on Saturday, but it will mainly be to the south of the area. By Sunday, the rain will be light and scattered. Temperatures will be cooler behind the front, with highs in the lower 80s and lows in the lower 60s by Sunday. The last days of the end of the forecast see a nice Labor Day holiday and beyond, with drier and cooler weather sticking around.
