Monongalia County, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Transportation are teaming up to honor volunteers who help clear litter from the side of the road.
The annual Adopt a Highway Volunteer Appreciation Day is happening on August 1 at Lakeview Golf Resort in Morgantown. Volunteers will get lunch and participate in activities.
Years of service awards and lapel pins will be awarded. A volunteer will be named Volunteer of the Year.
Volunteers clear over 200,000 pounds of trash every year from more than 1,700 miles of roadway.
There were 7,000 volunteers last year.
