An Amazon facility is coming to Raleigh County

BEAVER, WV (WOAY)- The e-commerce giant, Amazon, will be launching its first delivery station in Raleigh County. The site is under development off of I-64 in Beaver.

According to Amazon, this will support their efforts to provide fast delivery and great service to local customers in the area. State Treasurer Larry Pack says that this is great for Raleigh County and southern West Virginia as a whole.

“I think having a company like Amazon come to southern West Virginia just really sets the bar for Raleigh County, for southern West Virginia sends to the nation that we’re open for business,” said Larry Pack, WV State Treasurer. “That companies like amazon believe in Raleigh County, believe this is a place to come and provide jobs. We know that if Amazon comes, other people will follow.”

According to Pack, having this facility will employ about 75 full-time and 30 part-time jobs in the area. That’ll be just one of the ways our local economy will be affected, but more would be on the horizon.

“From a consumer standpoint, we’re going to get our packages quicker. That’s also pretty cool, right?” said Pack. “The airports are going to have more planes coming in to deliver their supply, so it’s going to mean a lot to the airport. So, it just has a ripple effect through the economy. But the idea that we could get on Amazon and order something at 10:00 at night and maybe see it at our doorstep at 9:00 the next morning, that’s pretty cool, too.”

Construction is currently in the early stages, and we’ll continue to track this story.
