WELCH, WV (WOAY) – The McDowell Renaissance Village Apartment Complex was finally completed last week and the project leaders are hoping it will help drive the local economy to new heights.
The American Federation of Teachers helped spearhead the project, and they say the new apartments will give teachers a more centralized and affordable place to live in downtown Welch. The President of The American Federation of Teachers Randi Weingarten says that she hopes the apartments will help revitalize the downtown economy.
“Now we have two stories of commercial, two stories of apartments, and they are ready to rent and there’s a lot of interest in it. But the commercial piece is just as important because we need to create a vitality on Main Street,” Weingarten said.
The apartments have 16 units available for rent in the heart of downtown Welch.
