OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – Get colorful for a great cause benefitting Hope in the Hills’ mission to end opiate addiction in Appalachia.
Join them on Saturday, August 3, 2024, for the Color Dash for Hope 5K Run. There are cash prizes for the top three men and women who place.
“Been working really hard to end that problem, and Hope in the Hills has been working really hard for the last number of years in their mission to end opioid addiction,” said Ace Adventure special events coordinator Chris Colin. “So we’re doing what we can to send them a little bit of love and do the Color Dash for Hope to raise some funds for them.”
Along the course of the run get ready — you will encounter color stations.
“They’re gonna get colored in a bunch of powder. So a lot of people do wear all white,” Colin said. “Folks that signed up before the end of June get a free white t-shirt. They will be pretty colorful by the end of their 5k run.”
In this second year of the event, 150 runners are registered. Anyone can participate, whether you want to run or walk the race.
“The online registration’s gonna be open through Wednesday (July 31) at midnight and you can still get signed up Saturday. The race kicks off at 10 a.m. right here at the lake behind me.”
Hope in the Hills does all it can, putting on Healing in Appalachia for years.
“They’re able to give a ton of money to that community. We’ve worked with some of the recovery groups doing different events here,” said Colin. “Recovery Point has been a huge help during our Mountain Music Festival event. And that whole crew is gonna be here this weekend spreading the color around.”
Most everyone in this area knows somebody touched by addiction.
“A family member, they have a friend that’s been hit with this problem,” the special events coordinator said. “So we just want to do what we can to try to end opioid addiction in Appalachia and West Virginia.”
