AAA study reports nearly 71 million people are gearing up to travel for Fourth of July

West Virginia (CNN) – Travelers are set to hit the roads, the rails, and the tarmac this Fourth of July! 

AAA estimates a record 70 million people will travel 50 miles or more the week of Independence Day. 

More than 60 million people will travel by car. 

Car rental company Hertz projects that Dallas, Denver, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco will have the highest demand. 

Some travelers prefer to take to the skies. 

5.7 million people will fly to their holiday destination. 

The average cost for a domestic round-trip plane ticket is $800 for the week of the fourth. 

AAA recommends that travelers drive in the morning to avoid traffic and arrive at airports early to catch flights on time.
