West Virginia (WOAY) Football season is back, and AAA is urging fans to plan for safety alongside their game-day plans.
AAA says fans should never mix drinking and driving and should plan a sober ride home before kickoff.
In 2024, nearly 12,000 people were killed nationwide in alcohol-impaired crashes.
In West Virginia, 78 people died in those crashes, accounting for nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities that year.
AAA also reminds tailgaters to keep grills away from vehicles and other flammable items and to make sure coals and grease are completely cool before leaving.
For home watch parties, AAA recommends keeping grills away from structures and overhanging branches, having a fire extinguisher nearby, and keeping walkways clear.
The goal is to enjoy the game, but make sure everyone gets home safely.
