The system that produced last night’s showers and storms around the area is gone now and the skies have cleared out this afternoon around the region. Now it’s wall to wall sunshine at 3 p.m. as we can see on the visible satellite.
Another indicator of how dry it is at the moment – and how cool it will get tonight – is the dewpoint map. You can see that dewpoints are in the 30s and 40s at 3 p.m. around the entire region.
Skies should stay clear for the rest of the day and through tonight. All those factors will combine to allow temperatures to fall quickly once the sun sets, which happens at 8:22 p.m. in Beckley. By tomorrow morning, temperatures will be in the middle to upper 30s in many areas, but especially in the northern counties.
With all those factors in play, the National Weather Services in both Charleston as well as the office in Blacksburg, Virginia have issued Frost Advisories from 2 a.m. until 8 a.m. for the areas highlighted in the light blue color on this map.
The good news with the dry air is that as quickly as it cools off, it will warm up again. Highs tomorrow will be near 70 degrees everywhere and in the middle 70s with some sunshine for Mother’s Day.
Next week, a series of storms will push through the area and keep us with chances for showers and storms throughout the week, so this is the weekend for outdoor plans. Enjoy!
