A brief break in the rain…but more is on the way

There are still clouds and showers around the area, but the number and intensity of the rain is not what it was yesterday. As the number of showers has gone down, the temperatures have gone up. Readings are in the 50s and 60s around the area. Showers are possible tomorrow as well, but again, the chances for rain are small. The reason for the rain is a mid-level disturbance that will push through the area.

A much better chance for rain comes into the forecast on Friday as another surface low pressure center pushes into the area.

Decent rain totals will give us a chance for some ponding water on the roads and standing water in the low-lying spots, but massive flooding should be avoidable due to the vegetation and the fact that the rain totals were not too heavy over the last couple of days in our area. As an example, the Beckley Airport has picked up around a half-inch of rain over the last few days.

After a wet start to the weekend, we should see the rain chances go down. It will be scattered showers beginning Saturday afternoon and evening, then scattered showers will be in the skies on Sunday. Then it dries out for the last three days of the extended forecast period. And, even better for the warm weather lovers, temperatures will rise into the upper 70s and lower 80s!
