PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – Mercer County is hard at work creating a site for a gold star family memorial.
The site is located in downtown Princeton outside the courthouse, and the county has recently been performing construction to get the memorial ready. Most recently, they slightly moved an iconic tank that has sat outside the courthouse for years.
According to Bill Archer with the county commission, the monument has a lot of construction necessities, and should be completed by next month.
“It has to have a circle around the monument itself, so in order to achieve that, we had to approach upon where the tank was. So all we really did was just move the tank about 12 or 15 feet away from its previous location,” Archer said.
A dedication ceremony for the gold star memorial is scheduled for October 24, 2020.
