MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Each month, McDowell County puts on a drug-free event for its youth.
The goal of these events are to encourage them to be drug free, but also provide some socially distant physical activity. July’s event is this Friday, and it will be a swimming event at the Linkous Pool in Welch.
“One of the local trucking companies donated the money to rent the Linkous Pool in Welch,” said Gary Chief of Police S.P. “Pat” McKinney. “We’re inviting all of the children in McDowell County that want to come up and swim free to come up to the drug free event. We’re going to have some volunteers there. We’re hoping to have some food and refreshments to pass out. The police department will be there. We’re going to promote it as a drug free family night.”
McDowell is attempting to do as many outdoor events as possible in order to meet COVID-19 restrictions.
