Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) If you’ve been affected by recent flooding or have been in or around floodwater, the Fayette County Health Department is reminding you to check your vaccination status.
Flood cleanup can lead to cuts, puncture wounds, and other injuries.
If you’re due for a tetanus vaccine, you may need a Tdap or Td booster.
Hepatitis A vaccination may also be recommended for people at increased risk, particularly when flooding affects sanitation or exposes people to contaminated water or sewage.
If you’ve been exposed to floodwater or are helping with cleanup and are unsure whether you need a vaccine, contact the Fayette County Health Department at 304-574-1617.
Officials also remind residents to wear protective clothing and gloves during cleanup and avoid floodwater whenever possible.
