Vance, Fayetteville earn statewide honors for excellence in government

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – Both the Town of Fayetteville and one of its community fixtures have earned statewide honors.

The town was awarded the All-Star Community Award for its redevelopment of three former school buildings into housing, hospitality, and community assets.

The program seeks to foster community enhancements and encourage good local government.

“This project demonstrates what’s possible when a community embraces its history while investing in its future,” Fayetteville Mayor Sharon Cruikshank said. “What was once a vacant school campus is becoming a place where people can live, work, visit, and gather. This recognition reflects the vision, partnerships, and dedication that made this transformation possible, and we’re honored to receive it on behalf of everyone who helped bring it to life.”

In addition, Fayetteville Town Clerk Zenda Vance was named the 2026 West Virginia Municipal League Clerk of the Year. The award recognizes her for her professionalism, leadership, and dedication.
