OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – The weather today was dramatically different than what we saw on Saturday. Even this evening, we’re still quite a bit cooler than we were yesterday.

Lows tonight will drop into the 30s almost everywhere. In areas where the growing season has started, the frost could cause issues, and with that in mind, the National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory from 1 a.m. until 10 a.m. Monday morning for areas along and northwest of the spine of the Appalachians.
Tomorrow, with dry air in place, temperatures will rebound nicely after the cold start, but still won’t be able to get back to the normal for this time of the year, which in Beckley is 61 degrees.

Temperatures fall quickly by the late afternoon, and lows tomorrow night will be a shade colder, close to the freezing mark. We’ll stretch the cold weather out through Wednesday morning before the rebound begins. The same high that will be located over Minnesota and Wisconsin early in the week will move to the east, and return flow from the southwest begins Wednesday afternoon.
Later in the week and into the weekend, with the high over the Canadian Maritimes and another, weaker high forming over western North Carolina, temperatures rise into the upper 70s. This trend should last beyond the extended forecast as well.

On Saturday, a weak front tries to come into the area, but it will have very little moisture to work with, so it will be hard-pressed to produce any rain.

While the lack of rain with the passing front will make for a dry and pleasant weekend, it’s not necessarily good news, as it means the dry conditions we’re seeing throughout much of the area will likely intensify. Last night’s rain will likely prove to be insufficient to keep us out of a worsening drought.
