State sends over 2 million to aid food banks before SNAP benefits run out

Kanawha County, WV (WOAY) – Friday, Governor Patrick Morrisey announced that the state has sent another $2.5 million to support food banks in the area.

This brings the total of aid from the state up to 8.6 million for emergency food assistance to help those impacted by the loss of SNAP benefits due to the government shutdown.

Last week, Morrisey expedited over one million dollars to fund food banks. Tuesday, the governor authorized another 5 million for food banks.

Starting November 270,000 West Virginians will be without SNAP benefits.

Morrisey has ordered the West Virginia National Guard to help at food banks across the state. The Governor is asking everyone to donate to Facing Hunger Food Bank and the Mountaineer Food Bank. The QR codes to donate are below.
