Hinton, WV (WOAY) – A Summers County man is facing drug charges for allegedly operating a drug lab out of his house.
According to court document, deputies with the Summers County Sheriff’s Office received a credible tip from a confidential source related to drug activity. On Monday, October 20, 2025, the source provided deputies with several photos illustrating what appeared to be a drug lab in operation by Douglass Scott Berkshire of Hinton. The confidential source also informed deputies that Berkshire was producing psychedelic mushrooms and Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) through the alleged drug operation.
As a result of the information obtained from the confidential source deputies obtained a search warrant for Berkshire’s home in Hinton.
According to court records, as the search warrant was being executed deputies made contact with Douglass Scott Berkshire. After being advised of his Miranda Rights, Berkshire reportedly admitted to manufacturing mushrooms and DMT and told deputies they were in his lab. The suspect also admitted to distributing drugs to friends as well as having a small amount of meth at his home.
According to deputies, the search revealed all the drugs the suspect admitted to having as well as what is being described as a “large clandestine drug lab”.
48-year-old Douglass Scott Berkshire is charged with Operating a Clandestine Drug Lab, Manufacturing a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance.
He is currently being held in the Southern Regional Jail under a $76,000 bond.
