Mercer County, WV (WOAY) – Judge Mark Wills has sentenced Charles Lee Dawson to the maximum sentence for shooting Keri Billings in front of her daughters in 2023.
Dawson was convicted by a jury in July. The jury also recommended no mercy to the judge.
He was convicted of shooting Billings to death with an AR-15 in front of her two young daughters. Those daughters witnessed the murder and ran away to call 911, one even recorded the argument before the shooting.
Prosecuting Attorney Brian Cochran applauded the girls for being brave enough to testify. He also thanked the jury and Mercer County law enforcement.
Dawson has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
