Richlands, VA (WOAY)- The Richlands Police Department is investigating the tragic death of a juvenile female.
According to an official release, the incident occurred on the morning of August 12, shortly after 9:12 a.m.
Tazewell County 911 received a call for service in the Town of Richlands, reporting an unresponsive young girl.
Officers responded immediately, with two of them being cross-trained as medics.
Richlands Rescue arrived shortly after.
Despite extensive life-saving efforts, the juvenile was later pronounced dead at Clinch Valley Medical Center.
At this time, authorities do not suspect any foul play, although an investigation is ongoing.
The Richlands Police Department is leading the investigation, with support from the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office and the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.
Chief Ronald D. Holt II is asking the community to pray for the loved ones of the deceased and the public safety personnel affected by this heartbreaking event.
Officials say a further update will be provided once the investigation is complete.
