Parkersburg, WV (WOAY) – The Parkersburg Police Department is set to host a heartwarming community event on Friday, September 12.
13-year-old Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, who’s been battling brain and spinal cancer, will be officially sworn in as an honorary officer with the department.
Diagnosed in 2018 and given just five months to live, DJ has defied the odds with unmatched courage, already joining over 1,000 law enforcement agencies across the globe.
Now, he brings his mission to Parkersburg, with a swearing-in ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Bandshell in City Park.
At 7 p.m., the community is invited to celebrate DJ’s big day with a free concert at Point Park Amphitheatre, featuring The Chris Darlington Band and their “On Your Bumper” Tour.
Police Chief Matthew Board says DJ embodies the courage and heart every officer strives for.
Now, departments across West Virginia are invited to join the tribute.
