Prosecuting Attorney requests a forfeiture of bond for a man who is on the run

Greenbrier County, WV (WOAY) – The Greenbrier County Prosecuting Attorney has requested a forfeiture of bond for a man who is on the run for the second time in two weeks.

Prosecuting Attorney Nicole G. Campbell is petitioning the circuit court to forfeit the $70,000 bond for Jason Roberts, who failed to appear for his scheduled hearing.

That means the local bail bondsman who secured the bond would be on the hook for the full amount.

Roberts was arrested last month after a manhunt. He was wanted on breaking and entering and larceny charges. After his arrest, he posted bond and failed to appear in court, making him a fugitive once again.

Campbell said the legal action she is taking holds the right people accountable for not fulfilling their obligations.

Her statement reads in part, “This case highlights the legal responsibilities of bail bondsmen in ensuring that defendants appear for their court hearings. The outcome of this petition could have significant implications for the local bail bond industry and the enforcement of bail conditions in Greenbrier County.”

The public is asked to call 911 if they see Roberts.
