OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We are forever grateful for our freedom and lives because of veterans. So we want to ensure they have what they need.
That’s why Beckley Vet Center’s Mobile Unit was at the Church of the Nazarene to offer free confidential help for veterans, service members, and their families.
“What’s called readjustment counseling, individual counseling, bereavement counseling,” said Veterans Outreach Specialist James Willis. “We also try to help the veterans with their benefits if they’re struggling or they don’t know the right procedure, we get them hooked up so they can start getting the benefits they deserve.”
In rural areas like this, Willis says access to vital information is crucial. Whether dealing with PTSD, depression, or the psychological effects of military sexual trauma — having the mobile unit is necessary.
“I’m sure it’s comforting to know they have the resources out here,” Willis said.
Connect with The Beckley Vet Center Mobile Unit from 10 am-12 noon on the second Wednesday of every month, when they provide much-needed assistance in a non-medical setting.
“You got your older veterans (Vietnam era), you got your Persian Gulf era that sometimes they don’t know exactly how to get their benefits,” said the veterans outreach specialist. “So we try to help ’em along the way.”
Connection, Camaraderie, Community — the Vet Center’s motto as they’re always helping each other.
“It is a really good thing right here in the community, right here in Fayette County; especially right here in Oak Hill,” Willis said.
