DANIELS, WV (WOAY)—It’s been almost a month since our primary elections, and the Republican Party says it is on a path to unity.
“The Republican party is coming together in a way like I’ve never seen it before,” said Patrick Morrisey, the Republican nominee for governor. “At the end of the day, when everyone comes together, it shows that there’s more that brings us together than separates us. And that’s what excites me most about the process.”
The Raleigh County Republican Executive Committee held a victory party where candidates connected with supporters. It was held at the Glade Springs Grill and Bar. Only standing room was available as people in Raleigh County and beyond came to participate. One by one, the candidates spoke to the public about their plans and thanked everyone for their support.
“It’s exciting. I’m just thrilled to be able to serve,” said Brian Helton, the Republican nominee for the ninth district in the state senate. “I look forward to the general election because we really want to help West Virginians. All the voters understand who they’re voting for and what these candidates’ ideas are.”
Candidates are excited to bring more to southern West Virginia.
“We’ve got to fight a little bit harder to make southern West Virginia a better place and be able to tell the story,” said Larry Pack, the Republican nominee for State Treasurer. “Southern West Virginia is a phenomenal place to live and raise a family. We’ve got to continue to convince people that this is a place to bring your business and grow your business.”
Regardless if they are opposed in the general election or not, they said they will continue to hit the ground running for November.
“We have a lot of work to do in between now and November; I have a Democrat opponent in November,” said Kris Warner, the Republican nominee for Secretary of State. “So we’re raising money and doing all the things that we need to do to build a ground game for November. But it’s a time to celebrate tonight. We’ll start back up on the campaign trail tomorrow.”
