CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY) – A member of the Greenbrier Historical Society has been honored as a hero of history.
Jane Hughes is an archives volunteer for the historical society and worked as a librarian before she retired.
She was honored by the West Virginia Division of Arts, Culture, and History for her work cataloging genealogy records, the Lewisburg Homes collection, and courthouse ledgers in the North House Museum.
“I really appreciate the opportunity I’ve had to help folks find historical and genealogical information,” Hughes said. “That I can use my education, skills, and curiosity about the past to help people in my retirement is just plain wonderful!”
She was presented the History Hero Award by Thomas Bailey, chair of the West Virginia Archives and History Commission and Delegate Todd Longanacre.
