Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): High pressure will keep the weather dry through Thursday morning with a shower or thunderstorm likely, best chance east of Route 19, Thursday afternoon.
Chief Meteorologist Chad Merrill’s Latest Forecast:
FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: The approaching weather system will trigger a fresh round of showers and storms on Friday, best chance between 5-9 p.m. You are advised to take an umbrella with you to your favorite high school football game. The high school games along the Route 219 corridor and I-77 corridor have the best chance at rain interference.
WEEKEND: The upper trough will stall over the region through the weekend and trigger a couple of showers each day. Rainfall amounts of 0.50-1.0 inch are likely between Thursday afternoon and late this weekend. Only along and east of the Route 219 corridor has any potential for flash flooding, best chance Friday evening.
EARLY NEXT WEEK: Monday will be dry and less humid while a couple of showers return Tuesday and Wednesday in advance of the next cold front. The rain will help alleviate the early September dry streak across the region.
Meanwhile, we expect Tropical Storm Lee (which will become a major hurricane in the Atlantic) will stay far enough east of our region late next week so that southern West Virginia will see no impact from rain or wind.
