Beckley, WV (WOAY) If you love honey and want to learn more about beekeeping, the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine is getting ready for its annual Honey Festival.
The 9th annual Beckley Honey Festival is happening Saturday, August 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine.
The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and the Raleigh County Beekeepers Cooperative Association partner to host the event each year.
Visitors can learn how to raise bees, sample and purchase locally produced honey, watch live honeybee demonstrations, and visit informational displays.
There will also be activities for children at the Youth Museum, including bee dissections and an art activity, along with the “Forever Forest” exhibit on loan from the Omaha Children’s Museum.
The festival will also feature music from the Long Point String Band, specialty vendors, and food.
The event’s honey competition is back this year with additional categories. Organizers say it is one of only two competitions in West Virginia sanctioned by the state beekeepers association.
Discounted Exhibition Coal Mine tours will also be available throughout the day.
