McDowell County, WV (WOAY) – 5 people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a scheme to smuggle contraband into FCI McDowell.
According to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department, Chief Deputy Martin and Deputy M. D. Pertee were surveying Edmore Village Road on Monday, June 29.
According to a press release, they saw three men exit a black SUV with South Carolina plates and run towards FCI McDowell carrying footballs.
One of the men allegedly crossed onto FCI property and ran when confronted.
All three were detained after a chase on foot that ended in the woods between Edmore Road and FCI McDowell.
Deputies also detained two women inside the SUV.
Deputies say that they revealed they were dropping off contraband near FCI McDowell. In exchange, the suspects were going to be paid $500.
The alleged contraband was located, and deputies say it contained tobacco and a cell phone.
Marquevious Williams, Tymarion Floyd, Tylik Pratt, Shunda Robinson, and Kelly Wight have all been charged with aiding escape and other offenses related to a correctional facility and conspiracy, among other criminal charges.
