40 WVU student-athletes test positive for COVID-19

WOAY – WVU Athletics reported Saturday that 40 student-athletes and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19, out of 518 tests administered since June.

28 of the student-athletes are football players, five are from men’s basketball, six from women’s basketball, and one is from the women’s soccer team.

WVU reports all the individuals are in 14-day isolation periods from the time of their positive results and contact tracing is in progress.

Football players who tested negative began voluntary workouts last month, while men’s basketball players are slated to begin workouts on Monday. The start date was moved from July 6 to July 20 after five men’s basketball players tested positive at the beginning of the month.
