2020 Football Preview: Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Much like the new turf at Van Meter Stadium, Woodrow Wilson football is looking to 2020 as a new page in the program’s history.

Last year, the Flying Eagles finished 1-9, their fifth straight year below .500. This year, however, there’s reason for optimism. Quarterback Maddex McMillien gained experience as a sophomore and now leads an offense in search of more big plays.

Head coach Street Sarrett sees the offense being the team’s biggest area of improvement, saying the skill players have gotten stronger and faster this off-season. Last year, they struggled to tack on points and were held to single digits in seven out of ten games.

Off the field, players say the pandemic has brought them closer together as a brotherhood. The team hopes that renewed chemistry can translate to more wins in September.
