2020 Football Preview: Westside Renegades

CLEAR FORK, WV (WOAY) – For the past two years, Westside has finished with a 1-9 record. In order to right the ship, the Renegades will lean on a deep senior class. Head coach Herbie Halsey knows what this group is capable of. He’s coached most of them since they were in middle school.

“I think we’ve matured quite a bit in the offseason,” said Herbie Halsey, who’s entering his fourth season as head coach. “These boys that I’ve had for so long have really stepped up and are ready to play.”

The Renegades bring back 13 seniors, but a sophomore will line up under center. Jaxon Cogar assumes the starting role after starting against Midland Trail as a freshman last season.

Despite being an underclassman, Cogar is starting to embrace his role as a leader of the offense.

Westside was originally supposed to face Oak Hill in week one. But due to Fayette County shifting to orange in the county alert system, they now face Mount View at home.
