2020 Football Preview – Bluefield Beavers

BLUEFIELD, WV (WOAY) – The last three high school football seasons have ended with Bluefield making the trip to Wheeling for the Class AA state championship game.

While only one of those trips (2017) ended with a title, the end goal remains the same for the Beavers entering 2020. One of their themes has been not lowering the standards which have now been in place for multiple generations.

One approach the players are taking is that since the team is currently cleared to play amid the pandemic, they’re wanting to make the most of that opportunity. Also, with All-State players Sean Martin, Kaulin Parris, and JJ Davis having gone to college, it’s a chance for new players to make their own impacts.

With the traditional Bluefield-Graham game canceled for 2020 due to COVID-19, the Beavers open the season against a Mercer County rival in Princeton. The two will meet again later this month, as both teams were looking to fill schedule vacancies.
