The heat continues, but changes are on the way

It is another day with near record-setting heat around the area, as highs continue to flirt with the 90-degree mark. Yesterday, we set a record high in Beckley with a high of 92 degrees, the second consecutive day with a high of 90 degrees or higher.

Factor in the humidity, and once again, it feels like temperatures are near the century mark in many areas – again.

With all the heat, we still have Heat Advisories in effect through 8 p.m. The heat has been so persistent that these advisories have been in effect for the last THREE DAYS.

There are a few showers and storms around, and more storms will take us through the evening before we lose the heat of the day. The bulk of the showers and storms will be in the northern portion of the area, but everyone will have a shot at some rain.

Some of the storms this evening could be on the strong to severe side, and that trend will take us through the next couple of days, including tomorrow and into Friday. The main threat will be damaging winds, but large hail is also a possibility, although small.

As we end the traditional work week, temperatures will fall slightly, and chances for storms will increase. The overall effect is that it will feel slightly cooler but very summer-like around the region. The extended forecast calls for the temperatures to stay above normal and the rain chances to stay with us.
