MABSCOTT, WV – The West Virginia Department of Highways (WVDOH) is accessing a bridge on Route 16 near the I-64 Mabscott Exit in Raleigh County following a tractor-trailer accident that resulted in damage to the bridge.
Traffic is down to one lane as of the morning of Thursday, September 17. The WVDOH asks that the public use caution in this high traffic area and around the nearby Beckley Widening Project on I-64.
“When unexpected things happen, it’s always our first priority to make sure citizens are safe,” said Jimmy Wriston, Deputy Secretary. “Our engineers are on the scene and are assessing damage to our bridge. As our engineers assess the damage and plan the bridge repair, public safety will be our first concern and we will complete the repair with the least possible amount of disruption to traffic.”
In emergency situations such as this one, and in all work zones across the state, the West Virginia Division of Highways reminds drivers, “Heads up; phones down!” to keep each other safe.
