West Virginia teaching scholarship accepting applications

CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY) – Current high school seniors who want to become teachers but need assistance to pay for college can apply for a scholarship.

The Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars Program provides 25 people from across the country with a $40,000 scholarship.

The catch? After graduating, applicants must commit to teaching for at least five years in a West Virginia school.

It is intended to help alleviate teacher shortages in math, science, special education, and elementary education. Applications are due April 8.
