Summer baseball league begins at Epling Stadium

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – While the WVSSAC baseball season was canceled in 2020, Saturday marked the opening day of a league for high school and middle school teams at Epling Stadium in Beckley.

10 teams from six area counties have signed up to take part, providing an opportunity for graduated seniors to play before beginning college, and letting incoming freshmen see how they fare against high school competition.

Among the early games was a team of Shady Spring players winning against a team from Greenbrier West, while a team of Independence players won against a team from James Monroe.

Blake Hunt, who graduated this spring from Shady Spring, says he is looking forward to playing in the league because since he plans to play baseball in college, the league will mean there’s not as big a gap without playing time until the start of fall college baseball.
