WOAY (Bernie Dolan comments courtesy WCHS) – The WVSSAC, after consulting with Governor Jim Justice, has decided that the girls state basketball tournament and all remaining postseason boys basketball games have been suspended until further notice.
The girls basketball state tournament still has three quarterfinal games to be played before the semifinals, two of them involving area teams (Greenbrier East & Summers County). PikeView and Woodrow Wilson have already advanced to the semifinals.
The boys basketball postseason was scheduled to continue Thursday with the Class AA regionals; the Region 3 games are Independence-Bluefield and Shady Spring-Westside. Greater Beckley Christian has advanced to the Class A state tournament and is scheduled to play Pendleton County in the quarterfinals.
A decision has not yet been made on the spring sports season, though WVSSAC Executive Director Bernie Dolan says teams may continue to practice in small groups.
