PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – The Princeton Rays held a ceremony Monday honoring former general manager Jim Holland, who was selected to the Appalachian League’s Hall of Fame in November.
Holland spent nearly three decades in professional baseball, most of them with the Princeton franchise, as he oversaw their affiliations with the Cincinnati Reds and Tampa Bay Rays. Holland was instrumental in creating the Mercer Cup rivalry with Bluefield’s franchise, and received multiple honors affiliated with the Appalachian League, including Executive of the Year in 1993.
Holland is thankful for the relationships not just with the club, but with the city of Princeton over the years. Current Princeton Rays general manager Danny Shingleton notes the impact Holland has made on baseball in the area.
In addition to his time with the Rays, Holland was also Director of Marketing, Sales, and Game Day Operations for the West Virginia Miners, and was inducted into the West Virginia Sports Legends Hall of Fame in 2019.
