WOAY – Officials with the WVSACA confirmed Wednesday evening that the 2020 North-South Football Classic has been canceled.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail was first to report the story Wednesday afternoon; they’ve also reported the Boys Basketball Classic has been canceled as well.
Both Classics had previously been moved to July in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the WVSACA notes there would have been multiple logistical changes including housing venues, meal locations, and practice locations.
12 area players were scheduled to be on the South Cardinal roster for the football game, with Greenbrier East’s Ray Lee as head coach and several area coaches serving as assistants. The South basketball roster would have featured four area players and Shady Spring’s Ronnie Olson as co-head coach.
