New candidate for the Circuit Court announced at Greenbrier GOP meeting

GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (WOAY)- The Greenbrier GOP held their monthly meeting at Lionakis diner in Ronceverte. During this meeting though a new candidate made his official announcement for running in 2024.

Patrick Via, the current Prosecuting Attorney in Greenbrier County, has officially announced that he is running for one of the two Circuit Court judges for Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties. This is also the first time the Greenbrier County GOP has endorsed a non-partisan candidate for the circuit.

The Chairman of the Greenbrier GOP explains why they have decided to endorse Via.

“I think it’s important that we do it now because we want to make a statement that Pat Via is our guy. Pat Via has been our prosecutor for four terms. That’s a very long time that he has served as a Republican in this county. He’s been there before me. He’s been there before, most of us,” said Ben Anderson. “He has been our lionhearted Republican. And we stand by him in the election.”

Via explains why he has decided to not rerun for his current position, take on this new challenge, and why he feels he is the right choice.

“I have served as prosecuting attorney now for almost 15 years. I have one year left in my term. That’s quite a while to hold that office. I see this as an opportunity to run for office that I believe I can succeed in. I believe I can do well at, in performing that office. It’s time for me to move on, and this is the appropriate place for me to move on, I believe,” explained Via. “I think that most people would agree that there are several necessary characteristics for a successful member of the judiciary. But there could be no more important character trait than fairness and honesty. And I truly believe that I will bring that positive character trait among many others to the position.”
